Maci Johnson
MRD League Ambassador
Born and raised in Midland, Texas, Maci Johnson is proud to be a West Texas native with a lifelong love for sports and the community that shaped her. As a former Midland ISD student-athlete, Maci understands firsthand the impact sports can have on young athletes, from building confidence and teamwork to creating friendships and lasting memories.
Maci brings a passion for sports, storytelling, and community engagement to her role as League Ambassador for Midland Rec Division. For the past three years, she has served as a student photographer at The University of Texas Permian Basin, gaining hands-on experience in athletics marketing, social media management, and digital content creation. Through her work, she has helped capture the moments, personalities, and stories that make sports about more than just the game.
After earning her associate degree from Midland College in 2024, Maci continued her education at UTPB, where she is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Marketing. She is excited to combine her background in athletics, creative media, and marketing to help MRD continue growing and creating opportunities for Midland’s next generation of athletes. For Maci, this role is especially meaningful because it brings her back to the community she has always called home. She is passionate about helping local youth discover their potential, supporting families, and making sure every athlete has the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves.

When she’s not behind the camera or working on new ways to connect with the MRD community, you can probably find Maci on a field, at a game, or finding another way to bring her love for sports to life. She is proud to represent West Texas and looks forward to helping MRD continue making a positive impact, one athlete and one season at a time.
MRD (Midland Rec Division) was created to provide a structured, school-based athletic experience that develops student-athletes on the field, in the classroom, and in everyday life. Operating directly within Midland elementary schools, MRD offers Flag Football and Cheer, with Soccer joining the lineup in Spring 2027 for students in Kinder through sixth grade. Each program is designed to be inclusive, organized, and rooted in character, accountability, and community pride, giving students the opportunity to compete alongside classmates while representing their school with integrity and sportsmanship.

MRD’s athletic structure features age-appropriate formats that support development at every stage. Kinder through second graders participate in 9v9 Flag Football, focusing on fundamentals, teamwork, and learning the game in a safe, positive environment. Third through sixth graders compete in 7on7 Flag Football, building their understanding of strategy and responsibility while continuing to emphasize fair play and discipline. MRD’s unified Cheer program serves first through sixth graders, helping participants develop confidence, leadership, and school spirit while supporting their teams and school community.

Beginning in Spring 2027, MRD Soccer will offer Kinder through sixth graders another way to stay active, build friendships, and represent their schools. The program will emphasize foundational skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting while helping players develop coordination, communication, and teamwork. Whether stepping onto the soccer field for the first time or building on existing skills, students will have the opportunity to grow through a positive, encouraging athletic experience.

What sets MRD apart is its commitment to whole-athlete development. As part of registration, student-athletes are asked to submit their most recent report card—not as a barrier to participation, but as a way to encourage accountability, awareness, and growth beyond athletics. MRD believes participation in sports should reinforce positive classroom habits, helping students practice balance, responsibility, and time management. For fifth and sixth graders, MRD also introduces the 3C’s Character Development program, which emphasizes discipline, respect, and accountability while preparing athletes for leadership roles on and off the field.
